Residential Treatment Center for Your Teen with Anorexia Nervosa

Ozark Trails Academy understands that you want to find help now for your teen  boy or girl who struggles with Anorexia Nervosa. Please take a moment to look over this article, and then give us a call, (417) 278-6868.

What is Anorexia Nervosa?
If your son or daughter has shown extreme weight loss, or looks especially gaunt, he or she might be afflicted with Anorexia Nervosa.  Some other signs include insomnia, fatigue, discoloration of fingers, lightheadedness, hair breakage or loss, lack of menstrual cycle (in appropriate aged girls), and reduced tolerance to cold.

If he or she is struggling with Anorexia, your teen may go to excessive efforts to keep weight off, potentially impacting life activities.  These efforts might include disproportionate time spent exercising, abuse of diet aids or laxatives, or forced vomiting following meals.

We are here to help your teen with Anorexia Nervosa, an eating disorder most commonly observed as an inability or refusal to sustain a healthful body weight, and an obsession with not gaining weight.

The physical complications from Anorexia can be enormously serious and vary from anemia and imbalance of the body’s essential minerals to bone loss, kidney problems/ troubles and even heart failure. That’s why early diagnosis and care is crucial!

It is to be expected that your teen will at first refuse treatment, as Anorexia will leave him or her more interested in staying skinny than concerned about health; it is likely more about how they are handling their emotional problems than about food.  The last thing you want is for Anorexia Nervosa to control their life!

Some studies show boys both lose and gain weight faster than girls.  But whether you have a teen boy or a girl, the faster the Anorexia Nervosa is treated, and the faster they get back to their growth curve, the better the long-term prognosis.
