What is Antisocial Personality Disorder?
An unceasing mental condition in which your adolescent might show signs of dysfunctional thinking and relating to others, maybe treating others with absolute apathy to their feelings, possibly violating breaking the law, be scheming and deceitful, and showing admitting to no feelings of remorse.
These can all be signs of Antisocial Personality Disorder, and we can provide a safe haven as your child struggles to overcome this serious problem.
AntiSocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) is defined (by the American Psychiatric Association) as “a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others.” Symptoms include failure to conform, impulsive actions, bad temper, indifference for safety (for themselves, and for others).
It is often difficult for parents to recognize ASPD traits in their children but quite important to have the Disorder correctly diagnosed and treated, so that they won’t suffer additional, life-altering consequences, such as risky activities, reckless behaviors, even repetitious law-breaking leading to incarceration.
Here to Help your Teen with AntiSocial Personality Disorder
There is not a universally agreed upon successful treatment for this disorder, and it is an extremely complicated one to treat. There is some success seen in therapies that show the high cost of unlawful and unacceptable behavior. Some studies find contingency management or reward systems to be advantageous in routing behavior to a more suitable norm (not to be confused with normal, parental attempts at punishment and reward).
Your teen will need lasting treatment for ASPD, as well as for any linked conditions, such as depression, risky activities and anxiety.
